NTU College of Political Economy to Relocate to Historic Xuzhou Road Campus in 2026

The College of Political Economy at National Taiwan University (NTU) is set to relocate to the historic Xuzhou Road Campus in 2026. This move is particularly meaningful as the campus is deeply rooted in the history of political and economic education in Taiwan, making it a fitting new home for the College.

The Xuzhou Road Campus was originally constructed during the Japanese colonial period as the Taiwan Governor-General’s Higher Commercial School. During World War II, it was repurposed as the Taipei School of Economics. Following Japan’s surrender in 1945, the campus was taken over by the Republic of China government. After two name changes, the institution was eventually integrated into NTU’s College of Law in 1947, housing departments in politics, economics, law, sociology, and commerce.

This rich historical legacy reflects a century of evolving thought in law, social sciences, and commerce, aligning seamlessly with the College of Political Economy’s interdisciplinary focus on politics and economics. Acting Dean Shen Guan-Ling noted, “The relocation to Xuzhou Road represents a return to NTU’s academic roots in the study of politics and economics. It is a symbolic convergence of the past and the future, where historic significance and cutting-edge research will shape Taiwan’s next generation of leaders.”

The Xuzhou Road Campus will provide the College with modernized facilities while preserving its historical architecture, fostering an academic environment where tradition meets innovation. This move underscores the College’s commitment to advancing political and economic studies in Taiwan, while drawing inspiration from the historical achievements housed within its new walls.

The College of Political Economy looks forward to continuing its mission of excellence in education and research at this storied location, connecting its future achievements to the historical foundations of political and economic scholarship in Taiwan.
