Top Global Universities Seek Collaboration! NTU’s International Political and Economic Academy to Launch Two Master’s Programs, Enrollment as Early as Next Year

National Taiwan University (NTU) convened its first University Affairs Meeting for the second semester of Academic Year 2023-2024 today. NTU President Wen-Chang Chen delivered an administrative report, announcing that the innovative proposal for the International Political and Economic Academy was approved by the Ministry of Education at the end of February. The implementation will begin in Academic Year 2024-2025. Under the Academy, two new master’s degree programs—Master’s Program in Political Economy and Master’s Program in Finance—are slated to begin enrollment as early as Academic Year 2025-2026, with an additional 15 students admitted to each program.

President Chen stated that official enrollment for the International Political and Economic Academy is expected to begin next year. Numerous prestigious universities from the United States, Europe, and Japan have participated in discussions about the programs, including plans for dual-degree programs and co-teaching initiatives with NTU.

Chen also highlighted that NTU has already established a tri-university joint research and development center with Kyushu University (Japan) and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (USA). Each university has appointed a director for their respective research center, and the three institutions collaborate annually on a wide range of activities. The center’s goals include fostering faculty and student exchanges, co-teaching courses, and promoting dual-degree programs. The next phase of development includes plans to establish another tri-university joint research center with the University of Tsukuba (Japan) and the University of Georgia (USA).

Additionally, NTU is advancing international cooperation alliances in key national fields. Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) have been signed with the University of Illinois System in the United States, focusing on semiconductor, artificial intelligence, and data science collaborations. Partnerships with the Czech University Alliance will emphasize fields such as humanities and social sciences, engineering and technology, and Chinese language education.

Chen further noted ongoing negotiations for MOUs with the Polish University Alliance and the Kyushu-Okinawa Open University Alliance.
